VeriChip Present RFID Microchip and Virus Triage Detection System for the H1N1 Virus

[10/30/09]
VeriChip recently announced that its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Scott R. Silverman, will present at the ID World International Congress in Milan, Italy, which runs from November 3-5, 2009, and is the world’s leading symposium on the future directions of identification technology. Mr. Silverman will discuss, among other things, the Company’s in vivo glucose-sensing RFID microchip and virus triage detection system for the H1N1 virus. There will be more than 150 speakers at ID WORLD 2009, including visionaries, CEOs, key end users and government representatives from all continents, and thousands of attendees from across the globe.

The ID WORLD International Congress is the most comprehensive showcase on the evolving world of RFID, biometrics and smart card technologies, and is the only international forum that looks at the automatic identification industry as a whole, rather than focusing on a specific technology or vertical sector. It offers a full-scale and complete vision of social, technological and business aspects related to the deployment of the automatic identification systems. The ID WORLD International Congress has consolidated its position as the most comprehensive and highly targeted global summit on automatic identification.

ALBANY, N.Y. – New York Gov. David Paterson has declared a state of emergency because of the rise in swine flu cases.

The executive order means that far more health care professionals — including dentists — will be permitted to administer vaccines with only brief training. The order is needed to suspend provisions of state law.

Schumer pushing E-Verify, National Biometric Worker ID

The Senate Democrat leading the push for immigration changes said Tuesday verifying the legal status of workers will require citizens and immigrants to prove they are legally eligible to hold jobs in the U.S.

Sen. Charles Schumer, chairman of the immigration subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he envisions a workforce verification system that relies on an electronic identifier, known as biometrics, such as fingerprints.

. . .”We got people on the left who don’t want a card. We got people on the right who don’t want a card,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions, ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee. “Count me a skeptic.”

Child tracking device “Little Buddy”

October 27, 2009
Best Buy is selling a transmitting device that lets parents keep track of their children. Parents can place the device in a child’s backpack or lunch box, for example.

The “Little Buddy Child Tracker” retails for $100 (far less than other devices that sell for $200 to $500). It combines global satellite positioning and cellular technology to signal the child’s whereabouts to a computer or smartphone.

I am a big fan of Mr. Griffin’s Freedom Force International

In a nutshell, Freedom Force’s strategy is this;

Don’t fight city hall when you can BE city hall.

Freedom Force International is a network of men and women from all parts of the world who are concerned over loss of personal liberty and expansion of government power. They are not mere complainers. They have a plan to do something about it. They also share a common belief in The Creed of Freedom, which is a statement of principles that guide them in their mission to build a better world.

THE CREED OF FREEDOM

INTRINSIC NATURE OF RIGHTS
I believe that only individuals have rights, not the collective group; that these rights are intrinsic to each individual, not granted by the state; for if the state has the power to grant them, it also has the power to deny them, and that is incompatible with personal liberty.
I believe that a just state derives its power solely from its citizens. Therefore, the state must never presume to do anything beyond what individual citizens also have the right to do. Otherwise, the state is a power unto itself and becomes the master instead of the servant of society.

SUPREMACY OF THE INDIVIDUAL
I believe that one of the greatest threats to freedom is to allow any group, no matter its numeric superiority, to deny the rights of the minority; and that one of the primary functions of a just state is to protect each individual from the greed and passion of the majority.

FREEDOM OF CHOICE
I believe that desirable social and economic objectives are better achieved by voluntary action than by coercion of law. I believe that social tranquility and brotherhood are better achieved by tolerance, persuasion, and the power of good example than by coercion of law. I believe that those in need are better served by charity, which is the giving of one’s own money, than by welfare, which is the giving of other people’s money through coercion of law.

EQUALITY UNDER LAW
I believe that all citizens should be equal under law, regardless of their national origin, race, religion, gender, education, economic status, life style, or political opinion. Likewise, no class should be given preferential treatment, regardless of the merit or popularity of its cause. To favor one class over another is not equality under law.

PROPER ROLE OF THE STATE
I believe that the proper role of the state is negative, not positive; defensive, not aggressive. It is to protect, not to provide; for if the state is granted the power to provide for some, it must also be able to take from others, and that always leads to legalized plunder and loss of freedom. If the state can give us everything we want, it also must be powerful enough to take from us everything we have. Therefore, the proper function of the state is to protect the lives, liberty, and property of its citizens, nothing more. That state is best which governs least.

Highly Reccomended reading;

For the rational and historical support for The Creed of Freedom, see The Chasm in the Issues section of his site.

I have read, re-read and shared these 5 essays over and over.  They make up the most concise overview I know of that explains why we are in the fix we are in, how we got here and how to get back on the right track.

Greenwald Spotlights Civil Liberties

I have much respect for the integrity demonstrated by Glenn Greenwald who is now writing and editorializing over at Salon.

I discovered his writing when I picked up the book How Would a Patriot Act a few years ago and became a fan of his non-partisan analysis of issues especially pertaining to civil liberties.  He is a rare-breed of American, one that seems to remain untouched by the political duplicity
I have the impression he is “un-claimed” by any particular party or faction which may explain the name of his blog-Unclaimed Territory
which was moved over to Salon in 2007.
Glenn Greenwald has steadily thumped the conscious of  Republicans and Democrats alike (provided they have one) on the FISA
fiasco of telecom immunity and the expansion bill, government spying
and has not let the story about John Yoo’s flimsy “legal” justification for unbridled Executive power that was siezed upon by the Bush administration as a legitimate construct for many of its extra constitutional power grabs.
is coverage of the new administration has continued seamlessly.
from Amazon;

Glenn Greenwald was not a political man. Not liberal, not conservative. Politicians were all the same and it didn’t matter which party was in power. Extremists on both ends canceled each other out, and the United States would essentially remain forever centrist. Or so he thought. Then came September 11, 2001. Greenwald’s disinterest in politics was replaced by patriotism, and he supported the war in Afghanistan. He also gave President Bush the benefit of the doubt over his decision to invade Iraq. But, as he saw Americans and others being disappeared, jailed and tortured, without charges or legal representation, he began to worry. And when he learned his president had seized the power to spy on American citizens on American soil, without the oversight required by law, he could stand no more

Thank you, Glenn for your consistent, in depth investigations free from political hidden agenda’s and keep up the good work!

Former Marine captain resigns in protest of Afghanistan war

Top civilian in southern province argues we’re exacerbating the problem we’re supposedly there to solve
By Glenn Greenwald

(updated below)

Matthew Hoh, a former Marine captain with combat experience in Iraq, resigned last month from his position with the Foreign Service, where he was the the senior U.S. civilian in the Taliban-dominated Southern Afghanistan province of Zabul, because he became convinced that our war in that country will not only inevitably fail, but is fueling the very insurgency we are trying to defeat.  Hoh’s resignation is remarkable because it entails the sort of career sacrifice in the name of principle that has been so rare over the last decade, but even more so because of the extraordinary four-page letter (.pdf) he wrote explaining his reasoning.

Hoh’s letter should be read in its entirety, but I want to highlight one part.  He begins by noting that “next fall, the United States’ occupation will equal in length the Soviet Union’s own physical involvement in Afghanistan,” and contends that our unwanted occupation combined with our support for a deeply corrupt government “reminds [him] horribly of our involvement in South Vietnam.”  He then explains that most of the people we are fighting are not loyal to the Taliban or driven by any other nefarious aim, but instead are driven principally by resistance to the presence of foreign troops in their provinces and villages (click on image to enlarge):

NYT condemns what it calls “Obama’s cover-up”

A leading pro-Obama outlet says he “has clung to Bush’s expansive claims of national security and executive power.”
By Glenn Greenwald

(updated below)

The New York Times Editorial Page has long been one of the most reliable and vocal pro-Obama outlets in the nation.  When they endorsed him for President, they praised his “strength of will, character and intellect, sober judgment and a cool, steady hand,” attributes they said he possesses in ”abundance,” and predicted he would provide ”sensible leadership, compassionate leadership, honest leadership and strong leadership.”  Throughout this year, their praise of him has been fulsome and their criticisms rare and restrained.  Most recently, they made numerous arguments as to why he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.  I could go on, but I assume the pro-Obama bona fides of The New York Times Editorial Page are well established.

The Washington Post’s 2002 “reporting” on Iran

Anonymous sources. Scary war-fueling claims. One-sided accounts. Sound familiar?
By Glenn Greenwald

Anyone who believes the establishment media in the U.S. learned even a single lesson from what happened with Iraq should immediately read this featured Washington Post article by Joby Warrick, which gravely and frighteningly warns that Iran’s Qom nuclear facility “was intended explicitly for making highly enriched uranium for nuclear weapons.”  It’s filled with one alarmist claim after the next (all anonymously provided, needless to say), such as this:  ”That number is too small to furnish fuel for a civilian power plant, but just big enough to supply Iran annually with up to three bombs’ worth of weapons-grade fuel, the former officials said” and “Qom could produce enough bomb-grade fuel for two to three bombs annually.”

Freedom of Information: Stalled at CDC and D.C. Government

Posted by Sharyl Attkisson of CBS

In August 2009, CBS News made a simple request of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for public documents, e-mails and other materials CDC used to communicate to states the decision to stop testing individual cases of Novel H1N1, or “swine flu.” When the public affairs folks at CDC refused to produce the documents and quit responding to my queries altogether, I filed a formal Freedom of Information (FOI) request for the materials. Members of the news media are entitled to expedited access, which I requested, since this was for a pending news report and on an issue of public health and interest.

The Obama administration made a commitment to a “new era of open government,” as stated in a presidential memorandum on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). On March 19, 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder issued new FOIA guidelines to “restore the public’s ability to access information in a timely manner.”

Two months after my FOI request, the CDC has yet to produce any of these easily retrievable materials. Sadly, this is of little surprise. This has become standard operating procedure in Washington.

OK 2nd Amendment Association Kickoff Event

Saturday, Nov. 7th 10 am

Join together with other Oklahoma gun owners to kickoff a new hardcore organization, the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association (OK2A). Initially, our main focus will be to advance Sen. Randy Brogdon’s Firearms Freedom Act in Oklahoma. A firearms freedom act will assert state sovereignty on behalf of Oklahoma gun owners similar to the Montana and Tennessee legislation, but with some tweaks to ensure success. OK2A intends to be a no-compromise gun rights organization similar to Gun Owners of America. Speaking of which, GOA founder, Larry Pratt will be coming to Tulsa to help kickoff OK2A!

Guest Speakers:
Larry Pratt -GOA Founder
Randy Brogdon -’Oklahoma Firearms Freedom Act’ Author
Art Curtis -OK2A Co-Organizer

“The Oklahoma Second Amendment Association is unwavering in its support of our right to keep and bear arms and its defense of the Constitution of the United States as the supreme law of our land. They are on the cutting edge of grassroots activism and understand it is not enough to just hold the line but that it is imperative that we win back lost rights. We at Gun Owners of America look forward to working together with OK2A to protect our gun rights.” ‐‐ Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America
