We are going to cover a lot of ground tonight.

First up are Colin Henderson and David Love,  returning guests to AxXiom For Liberty.  Colin and David are two untiring activists seeking to expose the deceptive and dangerous practices of Narconon and Scientology.

Colin Henderson sought help for his addiction at Narconon Arrowhead, a drug rehabilitation facility located in Canadian Oklahoma, in 2007.  He quickly became a critic of Narconon for their practices which he says are both deceptive and dangerous.

David Love, originally from British Columbia, was both a client and a staffer at the Narconon rehabilitation facility in Trois-Rivieres, half way between Montreal and Quebec City. He left in disgust taking with him masses of documentation on fraud and abuse in Narconon (NN) Trois-Rivieres (TR) facility in 2009. On April 17, 2012, Quebec health officials ordered the Narconon in Trois-Rivières to close saying that Narconon’s methods were dangerous for patients and violated Quebec’s health and safety criteria governing rehabilitation centers.

Colin and David will get us up to speed on the latest news regarding Narconon and help shed light on some of Scientology’s more insidious practices such as the one Howard Houchen encountered recently.

Narconon is a Scientology based drug rehabilitation program with facilities located worldwide including the state of Oklahoma.  Scientology has many fronts but all roads seem to lead gaining more recruits and money to fill the coffers of the church of Scientology.  Even so, you would not expect to find a trace of Scientology in a public school in the sleepy little town of Hugo Oklahoma.  Howard knows better.  He is going to explain how Narconon came to his child’s school and what he did about it.

Brandon Dutcher, OCPA

We will also get to hear Howard’s interview with Brandon Dutcher, the Vice President of Policy at OCPA (Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs) an Oklahoma individual liberty, free market policy research organization.  Howard and Brandon discuss the 91 million tax-payer dollars recently bestowed upon Oklahoma’s education system.  Brandon says that it is sheer folly to keep giving more money to this ‘failed government monopoly.’

Take a look at the numbers in Brandon Dutcher’s article for OCPA on the issue;  Oklahoma’s monopoly education system gets more money

Amanda Teegarden, Exec. Dir. OK-SAFE

We are also very pleased to welcome back Amanda Teegarden, the Executive Director of OK-SAFE, Inc. (Oklahomans for Sovereignty and Free Enterprise).

They say nothing happens by accident in politics and I am beginning to believe that this is true.   In the legislative process at least, I’m ready to vouch for it.  Amanda is going to shed some light on the process by examining two recent pieces of legislation that caused some confusion and controversy.   I think you will find this peek behind the curtain very interesting.

I will be sure to add any relevant links and articles after the show.

On Friday, Lucas Catton former president of Narconon Arrowhead, author of ‘Have You Told All?’, and our good friend Colin Henderson will be catching us up on the remarkable happenings at Narconon Arrowhead Scientology’s flagship rehab facility in located here in Oklahoma.

Lucas Catton

Lucas Catton

Catton came out of the shadows in the wake of the 3 Narconon patient deaths in a 9 month span that have led to criminal investigations and civil lawsuits against Narconon Arrowhead.

‘It was Catton who explained to us that Scientology officials have spent considerable resources lobbying and schmoozing state officials, worried that they would take a hard look at Narconon Arrowhead’s certification.

“When I left in 2006, they were eagerly trying to get some type of amicable relationship with the Department of Mental Health,” he says.’  . . . “They were worried that they had to get their entire program certified by the state, or get the law changed, or they would not be allowed to operate at all,” .  . .The Village Voice, August 18, 2012 http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2012/08/scientology_lucas_catton_narconon.php

NBC’s Rock Center did a feature on Narconon Arrowhead last August and will be airing  a very powerful piece on April 5th at 10pm EST/9PM CST featuring Lucas Catton and former staff member at Narconon, Eric Tenorio.  There will be a promo during the Rock Center’s show Friday March 29th show.

Axxiom For Liberty has been covering NN Arrowhead, the largest Narconon facility in the United States, since 2010 prior to the tragic deaths of at least 3 young people who were seeking help for their addictions that has set off a firestorm of media activity.

Much thanks to the sincere and tireless efforts of Colin Henderson who since his own dangerous experience with the facility in 2007, has been trying to warn others not to seek help there.

Here are just a few of the recent news items on Narconon Arrowhead;

-Legislation to curtail the dangerous practices at NN has been filed and has passed the Senate

Oklahoma Drug Rehab Bill Passes Senate: Scientology’s Narconon Days Numbered?

. . .history showed that the state had resisted Scientology’s plan to open the large rehab center in the late 1980s, and refused to grant it a license. But Scientology found a loophole in the law that allowed them to open based on a certification by a national nonprofit organization, bypassing state regulators.

In his bill, Ivester is trying to close that loophole.

Several parents say they are concerned over an anti-drug presentation at their school. The organization making the presentation and handing out literature is the controversial Narconon Arrowhead, which News 9 has been investigating here for several months.  Read more at NewsOn6

The curriculum provided by Narconon for grade and high school students is linked in the News 6 article and seems to diverge from scientific understanding of human biology.  This was a point of contention in California over Narconon’s anti-drug presentation to public school kids.

Narconon Arrowhead Update

Colin Henderson and David Love give us an update on the actions being taken by state officials and families stemming from the recent deaths of students seeking drug rehabilitation at the Narconon Arrowhead facility located in Canadian Oklahoma.

Next, we will speak to Dan Feidt, indy journalist and activist about a couple of very interesting items.

DRE officer: “I don’t know what the big deal is I just gave them marijuana”

This spring, Dan was instrumental in breaking the story about police officers apparently giving drugs to protesters in Minneapolis, MN.   He shot much of the video first detailing this unbelievable situation.  Dan is going to give us an update on the outcome of that investigation and also fill us in on the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation GPS-based vehicle tracking system that is intended to introduce a vehicle tax which would entail a great deal of data constantly collected by the government on the whereabouts and everyday patterns of the taxed vehicles.

Tonight on AxXiom For Liberty Radio Live-

Listen Live online from 6-8PM CST on LogosRadioNetwork.com
First, we will get an update from Colin Henderson on the situation with Narconon Arrowhead.  We covered the problems at this Scientology based drug rehabilitation center in depth back on the July 27, 2012 show.
There has been a series of questionable deaths at the facility and the enterprise has been fraught with controversy ever since it decided to locate in Oklahoma.  The media, as of late, have begun to take the organization to task both on the local and now on the national level.
Colin has been working to bring his concerns about Narconon to the fore since 2007.  Tonight he will catch us up on the latest about Narconon Arrowhead since we spoke with him last and give us his reaction to the NBC expose’ that aired last night on Rock Center with Brian Williams.

Families question Scientology-linked drug rehab after recent deaths

From Fox 25 OKC;

Narconon Arrowhead Legislation Planned

An Oklahoma Senator is planning to draft legislation in wake of the deaths at a rehab facility in Canadian, Oklahoma. Senator Tom Ivester says he plans to work with officials at the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to author his legislation. Ivester says his legislation will be aimed at “regulating questionable practices of a drug treatment program with close ties to the Church of Scientology.”

After that I am very pleased to introduce two good friends, Amanda Teegarden, the executive Director of OK-SAFE and Vicky Davis, former  Computer Systems Analyst and current researcher and blogger at Channeling Reality.  Both of these ladies are fact excavators-they read, research and dig to try and get to the bottom of things.   Together we will have a freewheeling discussion that will start with local matters (like current city planning misadventures in the cities of Norman and Tulsa) and then take a look at some interesting information that Vicky has found regarding the EPA, NATO and more.  If you are wondering what NATO and the EPA have in common, you aren’t alone and you have yet to hear about NATO’s ” third dimension”  Vicky Davis will explain.

Vicky Davis http://www.channelingreality.com writes in reference to the phenomenon of  cities instigating these boom and bust cycles;

It’s a localized version of Wall Street’s pump and dump.    The economic developers move in… create an atmosphere of boom time, the city has to build infrastructure for this development that they promise (that never comes).  The cities and counties have to float bonds to pay for the infrastructure, those bonds are securitized and sold on Wall Street – probably the same kind of scam as the securitized mortgages (sold many times over).
Pump the local economy…. then dump it because once they have the securitized debt obligations, the cities are on the hook.
Here are three pieces talking about economic development… once you could say ok, twice maybe coincidence but I keep seeing the same pattern over and over again.

Scientology’s Oklahoma Nemesis, Bob Lobsinger: “They Lied Every Step of the Way”

By Tony Ortega Thu., Aug. 16Scientology’s Oklahoma Nemesis, Bob Lobsinger: “They Lied Every Step of the Way” 2012 at the Village Voice

On Saturday and Tuesday, we gave readers some background on the Scientology drug treatment center in Oklahoma — called Narconon Arrowhead — that is now the center of controversy after four recent deaths which are under investigation, three just since October.

Tonight, a report by Rock Center’s Harry Smith on NBC should explode interest in the goings on at the strange drug rehab, where patients learn Scientology processes — like hours-long staring drills and talking to inanimate objects — rather than getting counseling for their actual drug problems.

The OSBI has now turned the results of its investigation into the recent death over to the District attorney in Pittsburg County. This, as News 9 is learning more about exactly what happens inside the facility. “It was a way to get you kind of weak and vulnerable and trust whatever they’re telling you,” said a former patient who asked not to be identified. “They’re kind of just people like me that have been through the program and decided to stay and work,”. The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse is also investigating the facility.

Guest co-host Craig Dawkins returns to the show tonight and we will be interviewing special guest Colin Henderson about the spate of deaths and dubious practices of the Scientology based drug rehabilitation facility, Narconon Arrowhead, located in Canadian Oklahoma

You can read his story here;

http://www.scribd.com/doc/100843675/My-Narconon-Experience-by-Colin-Henderson

We covered Colin’s story over two years ago on AxXiom For Liberty.

What we learned then that is even more concerning now is how Narconon was permitted to operate  in the state even after the Oklahoma Board of Metal Health refused to approve the organization stating that, “No scientifically well-controlled independent, long-term outcome studies were found that directly and clearly establish the effectiveness of the Narconon program for the treatment of chemical dependency and the more credible evidence establishes Narconon’s program is not effective”

A review of the many articles published in the Newkirk Herald Journal beginning in the late 1980’s when Narconon first began to put down roots in Oklahoma, raises serious concerns about the process by which the organization gained approval to operate.

Originally Narconon was sited in Kay County on tribal property.

Tribal members contacted about the Chilocco project were not aware of a possible connection to the Church of Scientology.  All they’ve been told is that it is a “private corporation.”

Pawnee office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs said they were not aware of the connection, and were very “surprised” be- cause the “state” and the “governor’s office” were involved in getting Narconon to come to Chilocco.

Herald Journal Publisher April 27, 1989

Narconon Arrowhead, is finally being investigated.  Unfortunately it has taken the deaths of four young people, three of them in quick succession to put this facility in the spotlight.

July 25, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — After three deaths in nine months at an eastern Oklahoma drug rehab center with ties to the Church of Scientology, the local sheriff confirmed Wednesday that he has launched an investigation. link

‘Somethings terribly wrong there’ Narconon Arrowhead

Kaye Beach

July 23, 2012

The father of Stacy Dawn Murphy who died recently at Narconon Arrowhead says that something is terribly wrong at the facility.

Controversy  has raged around Narconon ever since it was first established in our state back in the 1980′s and a quick succession of  deaths at the facility has renewed scrutiny upon the practices of the organization which are admittedly based upon the founder of Scientology’s teachings.

In 2007, the withholding of critical prescription medication for high blood pressure as well as dubious treatments and dishonesty by the facility leadership led to Colin Henderson to abruptly leave the facility.  Colin has been trying to sound the alarm about Narconon since that time expressing fear that the rehabilitation practices of Narconon could cause injury or death to those seeking treatment there.

Narconon Arrowhead, a drug rehabilitation center located in Canadian Oklahoma is a front group for Scientology, a fact that is not revealed to prospective patients when they check in. Regina Ramsey paid $27, 000 to enter the facility and says she was forced to read the Scientology bible.  When she wanted to leave, she says the counselors at Narconon wouldn’t let her.   Checking in at Narconon is easy if not cheap, checking out however, can be a nightmare.  Yesterday marked the fourth unexplained death in three years at the facility. Three of those deaths have been within in the last year.

Regina Ramsey’s mother was forced to call on police assistance to extricate her daughter from the facility but it is reported that Oklahoma officials are now  giving the dubious Scientology enclave some long overdue attention.

My friend Colin Henderson has been trying for years to get someone to look into Narconon with no success.

Just reported (July 2o, 2012  12:14 am) by the Village Voice;

Stacy Dawn Murphy, 20: Another Death at Scientology’s Flagship Narconon Drug Treatment Center in Oklahoma

. . .By the time that news hit, Henderson was already sending out messages to Oklahoma state officials, putting even more heat on them now that at least three deaths have occurred at the Narconon center since this past October.

“This young lady’s death is on the hands of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services for their inaction after two previous deaths,” Henderson tells me.

Henderson himself was a patient at the center in July 2007. Since then, he’s been trying to get the word out about Narconon’s quack science, its reliance on low-paid non-medical staff, rampant drug abuse among patients, and dangerous conditions for patients in withdrawal.

His efforts resulted in a recent three-part series by Marisa Mendelson at the Fox affiliate in Oklahoma City. “That scrutiny definitely helped,” Henderson says, but now he’s angry that another patient has died while most of his messages to state officials have gone unanswered.. . . in particular his state representative, T. W. Shannon, who is slated to become Oklahoma’s next Speaker of the House if Republicans hold a majority after the next election.
