Time for a cup off coffee with your Democrat Legislator…

The OK House has agreed to vote to override Governor Brad Henry’s veto of HB 2569, the bill prohibiting RFID tags in the OK DL/ID cards.

This vote was originally set for Wednesday, 5/5/10, but has now been moved to Tuesday, 5/11/10.

There is some evidence that the Governor is applying pressure to members of the Democrat caucus not to override his veto on this bill.

So, it’s time for a cup of coffee with the Democrat house members, who head home for the weekends, to ask for a Yes vote on the veto override. This needs to be done either in their home districts or at the Capitol,  especially by the constituents of those districts.

Please call/email/have coffee with the following OK House members before Tuesday, 5/11/10.

HB 2569 passed both the House and Senate with wide margins of support. (House: 76-13; Senate: 41-7).

Prohibiting RFID tracking tags in the OK drivers license and state-issued ID cards is an issue everyone, both believer and not, understands and supports.

In addition to local churches, grassroots groups, and everyday citizens, the regional ACLU office has issued a letter of support for the override of the veto on HB 2569, recognizing the inherent dangers to civil liberties and privacy which accompanies the imbedding of RFID tracking/data storing tags into our drivers license/ID cards.

Their letter states, in part, “Maintaining the privacy of all Oklahomans should be a top priority of members regardless of political affiliation. This is an opportunity for all sides to join together on an essential civil liberties issue.”

Prohibiting RFID tracking tags in our drivers license is neither an R or D issue – it is an Oklahoman issue.

Diligence is always necessary in preserving liberty. Once successfully overridden in the House, calls will be needed in the Senate for that same override vote.

Thank you very much for your help with this urgent matter
